At R&D Division
of NEC from 1984 to 1991, Mr. Kudo was involved in developing
thin film magnetic heads, electric devices akin to semiconductor
devices, highly efficient magnetic material films, film materials
for magnetic resistance effects, magnetic circuits, masks
for ware process, spattering equipment, ion-milling equipment,
RIE equipment, exposure equipment, dicer equipment, and other
polish equipment. He was also involved in analyzing three
dimensionally moving magnetic fields by means of finite-element
methods, and evaluating wafer circuit inspection equipment.
Mr. Kudo succeeded
in developing thin film magnetic heads for digital audio equipment,
and 36-rack thin film magnetic heads for outer storage devices
of mainframe computers. The technology was presented at a
seminal hosted by the Applied Magnetic Research Society of
Japan.
At the Patent
Center of NEC from 1991 to 1998, Mr. Kudo researched utilization
of patents, targeting top multinational manufacturers, surveyed
potential infringing products, and compiled evidence for various
legal and technical issues. He also carried out negotiations,
prosecutions of patents, and IP-related litigation and trials.
His technical areas included semiconductor equipment, circuit
designs, and wafer process.
In 1996, after
passing the bar examination, he was registered as Patent Attorney
in Japan.
After transferring
to Division of Licensing of Intellectual Properties of NEC
in Tokyo, MR. Kudo from 1998 to March of 2000 drafted and
negotiated licensing contracts, took charge of various phases
of infringement suits, and provided strategic plans for in-house
IP portfolio. His technical areas included wireless electronic
equipment, transmission devices (SONET/SDH.), data transmission
devices (e.g., ATM), wireless communication, moving picture
encoding ( MPEG), technology relating to the Defense Agency
of Japan (torpedo system, air defense system),technology relating
to the National Space Development Agency of Japan (rocket
altitude control systems, communication systems, etc.), ITS
(Intelligence Transport System), and automotive electronics.
In April of 2000,
Mr. Kudo left NEC and established his independent IP office
in Tokyo. He is currently managing partner of Kudo & Associates.
